Have you ever thought in stop learning?
When I was in middle school I thought that at the end of my university I will stop learning for my entire life. The phrase “never stop learning” is now part of my philosophy. In my mind, there was this wrong idea of me sitting in an office doing my job and nothing more special. Now when I remember my thoughts when I was 15 and realise that this is never going to end. This is something called life and this long ride means that we are learning constantly. And when I say constantly I mean every day. However, when I back in time and realise that I was so wrong I start feeling ashamed of myself I wasn’t able to see the big picture of how life works and probably if I knew it I would put more effort into my skills and follow my ambitions.
On the other hand, 3 people in my life show me and change my mind in a superior way they show me the importance of perseverance, effort and personal growth that we have to do if we want to achieve our goals. The person that teaches me the first value is now enjoying the results of his hard work and of course, he is not only my friend now I consider him as a teacher and a good example of how to be a smart and kind person that someday I want to be and follow his steps. As a result, if it wasn’t for him I will never get introduced to the tech industry and discovered how big and incredible is this world. Consequently, thanks to this friendship I discover this amazing tech community called Platzi.
What is Platzi? you are wondering…well this is an online school and the first in LATAM that brought tech careers and thanks to this I’m 100% focused on my skills and how I can be better every day. The essence of Platzi is “never stop learning” it sounds like a cliche because it’s a school but it works. When I was in the middle of my university I had the idea that I want to be the first in my class, especially in the Digital Marketing class but sadly traditional university is not ready for teaching us exactly what we need to know so, my first thought was If I can mix university with Platzi I will be unstoppable and I was right my last mark was perfect.
I could say that was my first successful experience learning more than I was in a traditional school. And of course, at that moment start my journey in Digital Marketing way and decide it was going to be my next step after graduating: being a digital marketing specialist. (All of this happened before the pandemic and try digital design if you want to know why I’m a marketing designer here you can read it)
His co-founder Freddy Vega always shows us (students) why we should never stop learning even if it’s not for our career it’s very important to stay in touch with what is going on outside of our computers and have an open mind to new ways of learning. Thanks to COVID-19 a lot of people who are not related with work remote or skills in computer and software has to deal with this new way of work and those persons have to learn and that’s exactly a good example of how life pushes us to keep going. Every Thursday Platzi makes a live session and speaks about tech news, gives us advice for personal growth or if you are not very familiar with politics they try to explain it easily. Anyway, thanks to this amazing community I have learned so many things about my career and how I can be more productive thanks to SaaS tools.
It’s more than just learning
My goals have been changed in a drastic way it has had a big impact on my professional growth. There’s something important that I learn recently in the pandemic situation and it’s about believing in myself. Before this, I have never imagined how strong this feeling is when you are trying to achieve your standards. Before never stop learning you should answer this:
Do you believe in yourself? Do you believe you can learn code? Do you believe you can get your dream job? My advice is you have to believe in yourself and never stop learning. For me this time of life is important and I have these values in my heart that helps me to keep going, it’s my impulse and of course, the results have been so fantastic!
Thanks to these two values I’m more capable of interviewing in English, taking classes in English, having a conversation without fear in English and more.
You’ll never know what you can achieve until you try.
